Setting your kids on a path to success

Today, I want to celebrate my family and in particular our Son Daniel who got 3As in his A levels which allowed him to get admitted to Queen Mary University of London which is part of Russel Group and Ntandose our daughter who aced A*&As in her O levels is on a path to go to Kings University College or Oxford to read Law in due course- I say congratulations to the lads and thanks to Saint Andrew’s International High School (SAINTS)

The key in the performance of these kids has been balancing life dispite our demanding jobs. During the formative years we made sure that we did the following;

  1. My wife and I dropped them off and picked them up every day from school until we noted that they could work hard on their own for a good 12 years.
  2. We continuously engaged the teachers and checked the kids journals.
  3. Ensured they did their home work and where they had gaps we engaged a tutor for support.
  4. We made sure we knew their friends and parents to appreciate the mental state of friends. And performance of their friends in school.
  5. We made sure we prayed for them every night followed by a big hug to assure them of our love and security whenever we were available and had dinner together every single day. We also had family Bible studies.
  6. Had breakfast and lunches together almost every Sunday.
  7. Listened to motivational talks every day in my vehicle to enlarge their vision and build the I can do factor in their subconscious.
  8. shared with them and showed them career prospects and Universities world wide.
  9. Sponsored dinners and lunches for our kids and top performers that we came across from diverse background.
  10. Ensured that they drew some lessons from our upbringing from their grand parents (but you know what these gogos can sometimes divulge to them-our bad side)
  11. We rewarded top performance and disciplined for poor performance.
  12. We encouraged our kids to do sports and volunteering to enhance interpersonal relations skills and selflessness.
    It was an intentional approach to set them on a path to success. We have to be intentional about building responsible future generations.
    How are you balancing life and how are you setting your kids on a path to success! Please share your thoughts.
